Don't Eat This After Your Workout

What you eat during the "synergy window", the 2 hours directly following your workout, can signficantly impact the health benefits you receive and the results you attain from that investment of time, energy and hard work.

By consuming high gylcemic foods after your workout, especially sugary post-workout recovery drinks or bars sweetened with fructose, you not only negatively impact your insulin sensitivity but you will completely shut down your exercised induced HGH release.

HGH, or Human Growth Hormone, has been described by many as the key to slowing the aging process. In middle age, however, the pituitary gland begins to decrease the volume of growth hormone it produces. A deficiency in HGH can cause the skin to slowly loose elasticity, become thinner, and wrinkle; it can also contribute to a loss of energy and stamina, loss of libido, loss of mucle mass and strength, loss of bone strength, fat accumulation, fading memory, thinning hair and the list goes on.

If you fail to reach HGH release during your workout, you will still receive the calorie buring benefits from the workout, however, because the actual fat burning takes place after the workout (during recovery) you will miss out on the HGH "synergy bonus" of increased fat buring for 2 hours after working out.

Research demonstrates that carbohydrates initiates the protein synthesis recovery process more rapidly than without carbohydrates. So if rapid recovery is your priority, this strategy may not be for you. However, if you are middle aged and want to maximize HGH, or if you are someone that wants to reduce body fat and shed pounds then apply this strategy.

It is also important to note that the two hour post workout sugar restriction is for High Intensity Interval style training, like Awakened Body Bootcamp for example. Since neither traditional strength training nor aerobic exercise increases growth hormone, there is not an issue with the high glycemic carb restriction.
